The history of Pao de Queijo begins over 400 years ago in the rich farmlands of the newly discovered Brazil.
Pao de Queijo is literally translated from Portuguese as cheese bread, a snack food that was so irresistible that it quickly spread throughout the country. Brazilian everyday life has become ingrained with the legend of Pao Queijo, ever-present at special events and gatherings.
With a history of bringing people together and lifting their spirits during lunch, dinner or whenever hunger strikes...
We were quite startled, walking through Farmer Jacks, to see someone handing out samples that looked oddly familiar. “Here, this is a traditional Brazilian recipe and it’s gluten free!” said the lady. We laughed and said “Wow! We just cooked these last week!” Turns out that there’s a local bunch turning them out as a convenience food. They sell them in packets in the freezer, you just bake as many as you need. They are a very worthy item for the freezer, we had some accompanying a bean stew I’d made, and they’re lovely. They form into little balls with a crusty, cheese exterior and a chewy centre. They’re very nice all around, and worthwhile eating even if you’re not a celiac. They’re calling them Cheesebuddy.
Delightful cheesy GF savoury balls. Recommend 35 minute cooking time and eat them hot to enjoy Crunchy balls with that cheese filling.
